Sculpture
Gale Fulton Ross' multidimensional talents find creative expression in multiple media. In the late 2000s she was awarded a grant, backed by the National Endowment for the Arts, to create a monumental work of Public Art to anchor the revivalist urban design of the city of Opa-Locka, Florida. Her concept was realized in the form of the sculpture called Miss Mary, and a public art project called One Story.
In its concept stages, clay renderings of a head-wrapped old woman gave rise to the tabletop sculpture dubbed Miss Mary...

The concept progressed through several architectural design stages, including scale models...

The final piece was a 30-foot tall, stainless steel lattice in the form of the bust of a wizened and elderly woman, a symbol of generational affection and wisdom. The statue conceals a time capsule containing memorabilia contributed by community residents.
