Artist Makes Home Town Debut

Gale Fulton Ross has achieved another milestone in her accomplished career.

Her works were recently acquired for the permanent collection of the Converse Memorial Museum and Malden Public Library, in Malden, Massachusetts.

Two works are now on exhibit. The mixed-media serigraphs Woe in Yellow and Nobody Knows What I'm Thinking were commissioned by the museum in recognition of the high-profile talent that the city of Malden has produced.

The June 5 exhibition was an event marking the expansion of the historical public library building, which dates back to the early 1900s. Fulton Ross remembers frequenting the library as a child, and relates the story of her first art exhibit, at the age of 10 - a pencil sketch of a lion's head - that so impressed the library director at the time that he displayed the sketch in the main library window for weeks.

The Converse Memorial Museum boasts a variety of works by American  masters including another famed Malden native, Frank Stella. Being included in this group holds special significance for Fulton Ross. "I am deeply gratified that I was selected by the library," she said in reaction, "and at the same time, deeply proud to be recognized as a contributor to the history and culture of my home town."
